Newsletter #96 21st January 2022

Editor - Derek Godridge PCC News of the Week:

We had quite a successful meeting last night whereby the members joined in heartily with the “Depth of field” exercise that Karen had set us.

We managed to find a useful surface – the pool table! – and after carefully covering it with a sheet of chipboard and covering, we set up some buttons that Wendy had brought with her. The idea was to see how many buttons we could get in focus at different aperture settings and with a medium telephoto of 85mm set at f 5.6 it worked out to be 3. Then adjusting the aperture to f11 we managed 6 or 7 in focus, proving the exercise worked! Something you can all try at home.

New member Jan had also brought some beautiful scientific instruments that members used in order once again to see if interesting areas could be isolated using a large aperture (a few “FFFs”) and then if they could capture the whole instrument using a small aperture ( many FFFs”) !!

Most important – if you have any images for the Charles Hosken please send them to me ASAP !! By the end of the weekend latest please.

Meetings

  1. As above it was great to be working with our cameras and it proves that just setting yourself a simple exercise like that can be a bit of fun and also educational. Most members had remembered to bring their cameras and perhaps more importantly their prints and digital files for Mandy. Anyone who missed out can always email them to Mandy, I’m sure she won’t mind – so long as you can at least size them correctly first.

  2. The other thing that most members remembered was the additional £15 membership fee top-up, so those members who didn’t turn up need to make arrangements to pay Chris please ASAP.

  3. Next week Thursday 27th we have the highly versatile and accomplished Bill Hall from Truro CC entertaining us with his illustrated talk showing his award winning wildlifeimages.

Competitions.

  1. Mandy’s fun “Lucky Dip II” is on Thursday 17th February.

  2. Yes I know we have only just had the hand-in for KF2 but KF3 is coming up pretty quickly too with a February 24th hand-in. This time it is an open competition so a little easier for us and more details will follow soon from Mandy.
